CAMBER OR CANT IS THE CROSS SLOPE PROVIDED TO RAISE THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SURFACE IN THE TRANSVERSE DIRECTION TO DRAIN OF RAINWATER FROM THE ROAD SURFACE.


THE OBJECTIVES OF PROVIDING CAMBER ARE:

SURFACE PROTECTION ESPECIALLY FOR GRAVEL AND BITUMINOUS ROADS

PREVENT ENTRY OF WATER INTO BITUMINOUS PAVEMENT LAYERS.

QUICK DRYING OF PAVEMENT WHICH IN TURN INCREASES SAFETY

Cement concrete 1.7-2.0 % (1 in 60 to 1 in 50)


Thin bit surfacing 2.0-2.5 % (1in50 to 1in40)


Water bound 2.5-3.0 %(1 in 40 to 1 in 33)

macadam, gravel


Earthen 3.0-4.0 % (1 in 33 to 1 in 25)


CALCULATION

2% = 6mx2/1000 =120mm

1 : 50=1/50 x1000 =20mm =20x6 =120mm(for 6m)
